Nigerian singer Oxlade is taking over the Ugandan music playlists by storm with back to back tunes that keep falling in. Real names Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, Oxlade is a Lagos based singer and songwriter who began his singing career in church, the same place other great stars like Michael Jackson , Wizkid and even Beyonce started.
The singer’s music has for the past months been on repeat in the Pearl of Africa as DJs, TVS, radios can’t get enough of his tunes. Some of Oxlade’s songs topping Ugandan charts include; Away, Tables Turn, among others.
Oxlade’s journey to music is one of its kind as it highlights on the singer’s passion for music, hard work and defying odds. Born on the 22nd of April, Oxlade started singing during his secondary school days notwithstanding his father’s disapproval. He dropped out of Lagos State University and his father cut him off. This nearly made him abandon his music career until Blaqbonez heard his song Sour and agreed to collaborate with him.
Singers Davido, Wizkid along with a host of other big wigs also sent him words of encouragement via social media after they heard Oxlade’s song.
The journey to OXYGENE
Oxygen is a 6 track EP which dropped on 27th March, 2020 and was produced mainly by Spax the Producer. One of the tracks Tables Turn features British Nigerian artist Moelogo. Other songs on the album include O2, the breakthrough mega hit Away, Hold On, Kokose, the uplifting Tables Turn and Weakness.
According to Oxlade, the album was inspired by his break up from his ex who left him just before he hit the stage with Wizkid at the O2 arena in London. Oxlade’s sound has been compared to greats like Wande coal and Wizkid. Wouldn’t we all love to be AWAY from our homes right now? Oxalde’s EP reminds us of why we fell deeply in love with Afrobeat music. The smoothest vocals, groovy harmonies will have you in your feelings , calling your ex, chasing your dreams and dancing till your feet are sore .

The single Away has us reminiscing about the wonderful times when we could be out with our friends, our lovers , good vibes and good times. it brings a refreshing take on the new school of Afrobeat. Away, the first track off the EP with a video is beautifully scripted and was shot in the coastal town of Cape Coast in Ghana. The song revolves around Oxlade waiting for his lady love to join him as he whisks her away on a trip and in love with her weary parents looking on . In the song he has a catchy line stating he doesn’t care if she’s older as he sits on her lap , this is also an ode to the strength of a woman depicting artistically that behind every successful man is a strong woman .
