Given the season, many universities are choosing their leaders for the next academic year. For MUST, the political environment is unique given that their involvement of political parties in Guild president elections started last year.

The race is seemingly so tight with 6 contestants but mainly 3 favourites. Most of the Musterians are still undecided about who should be the main person to represent their views to the university council. This is mainly due to students’ bias towards leaders who are backed by political parties as the former guild presidents rode on cheap popularity to attain the office and in the end did nothing. Also, the students’ indifference towards the guild governance as they feel uninvolved in the processes related.
We now look into the favourite camps.

KANYESIGYE COLLEB.
A soft-spoken man with unquestionable integrity following his perfect record with no controversies. He is surely the surprise of the race with a very loyal fanbase following his up-close and personal campaign where he has won hearts with his humility and passionate speeches about his unending enthusiasm for Musterians.

He takes the majority of the undecided masses given that he has no external influence and interests to fight for. He presents a stronger manifesto that is evidenced by his being independent and a catchy slogan of “Make it happen”.

MUHUMUZA UMAR.
With the involvement of political parties in MUST politics being a new venture, it is surely trending to associate with a political movement and many students aspiring for leadership are jumping onto the bandwagon with one of the favourites allegedly associated with the ‘People Power’ movement.

With regards to the experience of musterians following the dawn of political parties last year, many are not convinced whether he is the right man for the job given that he may have external interests. Furthermore, many are condemning the alleged use of false polls which his fan base. A sect of students looked at them as invalid polls with selfish interests of a particular candidate meant to decline the popularity of his opponents

BUKENYA HAKIM:
Following his association with the ruling party that is not at per with the youth, many may not wish to see the yellow dominance spread to their university.

The remaining three are not so much on the lips of students and little is known about them and they include: Bizimana Eugene, Nduhura Paul and Sserujongi Ivan but well let’s wait and see what the race presents.
