The Kyambogo University election have switched to another angle as six guild presidential contestants petition the electoral commission.
Last week saw the postponement of the Election Day from 10th March to Tuesday 17th March after an alleged command from the top office.
In a meeting that was chaired last week by the Electoral Commission chairman and dean of students, five guild presidential aspirants accepted the postponement of the Election Day, citing unfairness in the electoral process.
The aspirants who seconded the postponement of the elections day were Ssubi Julius Ceaser, Markmort Daniel, Onai Emmanuel Peter, Tayebwa Jonathan(NRM) and Nduwayo Trust Mugisha (FDC).
Mbaziira John (People Power) and Mugeni Sharif disagreed with the proposal and abstained, citing the need to consult students first.
Wildfire propaganda took verge within a short time. Well, this has been the usual game in the Kyambogo University politics. The propaganda however came with some allegations that attracted a lot of attention.
The people power camp claimed that it was the Vice Chancellor commanding everything since he had certain individuals he wanted to see go through in order to beat their candidate Mbaziira John. In a letter dated 9th March, the electoral commission wrote to a one Nduwayo Trust Mugisha, informing him of his full nomination.
The FDC camp however decided to turn this into a blame game, converting the same people power words to the incumbent president Tundulu whom they claimed nominated an electoral commission that would see his favorite candidate Mbaziira go through. Last week saw Mr. Tundulu joined efforts to campaign for Mbaziira John.
The news of the petition have not yet taken a full stroll around the students fraternity but our sources indicate that the Electoral Commission chairman, Mr. Sembatya Axam pushed it away until further notice.
The guild presidential aspirants who signed the petition are; Tayebwa Jonathan(NRM), Kigaaye Collin, Ochola David (ANT), Makmort Daniel and Nduwayo Trust Mugisha (FDC).
Among the reasons for the petition are; the candidates claim that some commissioners have not been approved by the electoral commission yet the elections are around the corner.
They also claim that the involvement of the incumbent guild president in the campaigns showed that he already has a side and it is therefore possible that he could be planning to see his favorite candidate go through.
It should be noted that it is the incumbent guild president who nominates the Electoral Commission chairman as per the Kyambogo University guild constitution.
