Pastor Martin Ssempa of the now defunct Makerere Community Church has revealed that some individuals fighting him are afraid of his fight against homosexuality.
Pastor Ssempa, who recently filed a petition against Makerere University for denying born again christians (Balokole) land to build their own church, says some of those against him are agents of homosexuality.
In a phone interview with Campus Bee, Pastor Ssempa said some people are afraid that he will fight homosexuality to the dot if he is given space to have a church at Makerere University.
“There are people who don’t like us, some of them are homosexuals. They think if I have a church at Makerere I will fight homosexuality,” he said.
Ssempa further said that born agains are not second hand citizens and should be given the same opportunities as other religions.
“Born agains are not allowed to pray at Makerere, they are being denied their constitutional rights and we are asking for affirmative action. University land doesn’t belong to individuals, it is public land,” he said.
Pastor Ssempa filed a petition against Makerere University with the Equal Opportunities Commission in which he demanded that the university accepts born agains to have their own church.
Ssempa wants born agains to be given a chaplaincy, land to build a church and student center, similar amenities as other religions.
Makerere University instituted a seven members committee to investigate and resolve the conflict with born agains. This was after the Equal Opportunities Commission directed Makerere to quickly intervene in the case filed against it by Pastor Ssempa.
