In the celebratory photo from left to right are Okumu Ivan Odida, Anita Birungi, Iisa Patrick, and Eperu Jacob, who are among the enthusiastic pioneer nursing students. Having joined Soroti University in 2019 fresh out of A-levels, they now graduate armed with the knowledge and skills necessary to make significant contributions to the healthcare sector in Uganda.
Soroti University first opened its doors to students in the 2019/2020 academic year, offering programs in Medicine and Nursing. While the nursing students have completed their studies, the medical students are set to graduate in 2025.
Since its inception, Soroti University has expanded its academic offerings. In the 2024/2025 academic year, the university boasts six programs: Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Computer and Electronics Engineering, and Bachelor of Accounting, Finance, and Computing. This expansion is expected to attract over 600 students, who will begin their studies in August this year.
