Soroti University has begun developing a curriculum for a Master of Public Health (MPH) program, with plans to admit the first cohort in the 2025/2026 academic year.
This move follows recommendations from regional health experts, prioritizing MPH as the highest-ranked new course, followed by Health Services Management and other public health-related fields.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor has encouraged swift progress on the program, which will benefit regional health practitioners, including those from the university’s own pioneer graduating classes in medicine and nursing.
Additionally, Soroti University is finalizing the introduction of a Bachelor of Midwifery program.
During the curriculum development workshop, experts, including Dr. Simon Omeke Icumar and Dr. Bonny Oriekot, shared international experiences to inform the new program’s design.
The anatomy block nearing completion and other infrastructure advancements are expected to meet the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) requirements for launching these programs.
