Kyambogo University fraternity was yesterday left in shock after one of their own Erick Olunyi succumbed to kidney failure.
Olunyi had been down with Kidney failure and by the time of his untimely death, he was being taken for treatment in Mulago but unfortunately he couldn’t make it to the referral hospital as he died on the way.
Emma Ogwang Emis, his closest friend, remembers the last words he( Olunyi) said to him: “Tell my friends to come and lay me to rest peacefully when I’m gone.”
The deceased was a third year student pursuing bachelors in social development. At the time of his death, he was undergoing dianalysis at Mulago Hospital. He was meant to visit Mulago twice for his treatment and the cost per day for each treatment was Shs 200milion which the family could barely raise.
Although friends and relatives managed to raise some money to push him through after a story about him featured in New Vision, the Angel of death sadly claimed Olunyi’s life, few weeks after receiving the first dose of his treatment.
It was a shock to his friends that flocked his Facebook account timeline to convey their condolence massages.
“Today is one of my worst days in the year, knowing of the untimely death of my dear friend Eric Olunyi. I remember the fun we had together, the times we shared cannot be measured. I prayed for you, and believed in God that you will be fine one day but death could not let this come to pass. Rest in peace dear friend. I love you,” one of Olunyi’s closest friends, Sarah Aporo, posted.
The late Olunyi was a born in Ngetta village in Lira District. According to Marriam Owino, a sister to the deceased, burial arrangements are still ongoing and she says he will be laid to rest in his home village in Lira on a date to be later communicated.
May the soul of the deceased rest in eternal peace. Heartfelt condolences to the family and Kyambogo community.
