Finally, one can say the voices of the students who are stuck and starving in hostels has been heard. Over the past few days, a series of outcries have been made on social media by students who were caught off guard by the COVID-19 lockdown with those who are stuck in hostels of calling for help as they were starving with no food or money to take them through the lockdown.
Key amongst the requests that have been tabled by these suffering students are those requesting the public to either donate to them food or money but the sustainability of this measure or solution is highly questionable.
However, it looks like a more workable solution might be on its way as the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga during today’s plenary session directed government to come to the aid of students who are stranded in hostels as she had received complaints that the students do not have food and their Landlords are soon evicting them.
On can only hope that the government heeds to the Speaker’s proposal and save these students.
