On Monday 27th January 2020, a team of Uganda Christian University (UCU) students led by the guild president Timothy Kadaga visited the speaker of the parliament of Uganda Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga at her office in Kampala.
The aim of the visit was to present the plan for the forthcoming annual UCU Run scheduled for 22nd February 2020 to the speaker. The idea of this annual run was hatched by Mr Kadaga in his manifesto during last year’s guild campaigns. The funds that will be raised out of this run will be used to support UCU students who are having financial constraints by giving them 50% of their tuition and also to install street lights in pathways around the university.
“The aim of this run is to generate income whereby every year we can provide half tuition for 5 students who are financially challenged. we shall also buy street lights to provide light in areas surrounding students’ hostels’’ UCU Guild president Kadaga explained to the speaker.
Speaker Kadaga thanked the guild president for the good idea he is bringing forward of educating his fellow students who are financially challenged.
“I want to thank you for this noble cause of supporting your fellow students who have tuition problems. Education in Uganda has become more expensive where some Ugandans are unable to access it, your idea will help many students to access higher education’’ She said.
