Stanbic bank Uganda has announced a partnership with Busitema University to offer scholarship opportunities to students in eastern Uganda.
The partnership unveiled by Stanbic bank on July 1st 2022 will award scholarships to people from low-income earning households.
The beneficiaries will take a six-months vocational skills training at Busitema University in an area they interest themselves in.
The training will cover robotics, irrigation technologies, automotive repairs, post-harvest handling and processing technologies, welding and metal fabrication, brick laying and concrete practice among other fields.
“Stanbic Bank is proud to be in a partnership with Busitema University to provide this scholarship programme that will enable young Ugandans to acquire vocational skills. The bank recognizes the importance of vocational training in increasing chances of employability of many young people…” Cathy Adengo (Head sustainability) said in a press release.
At least 70 people from eastern Uganda will benefit from the Stanbic Bank and Busitema University partnership.
Applicants for the scholarships must possess at least an O level certificate, be less than 35 years of age and have an endorsement from their localities.
According to Stanbic Bank, the scholarship programme will enable the participants to create their own jobs upon graduation hence reducing the unemployment rate in the country.
