Talking charity? It is widely believed and thought that campus students have no heart to give in to charity or to cut off some time to do something charitable, that’s not the case for Nanyonga Solome.
Nanyonga Solome is a third year student of Development Studies at Makerere University. Yes, that course that was on the verge of being scrapped off.
Nanyonga was second runner up in the ‘Jewel of the Nile International Charity Beauty Pageant’ which was during the holidays. Some will say that she had the height, we say she had the heart to do something charitable.
As second runner up, she managed to raise 1.2 million Ugandan shillings to help the Granny Foundation. The Granny Foundation is a project that looks after the elderly of 65 years and above.
“We spent a full week in boot camp where I was able to practice my talent of drumming. I love the long drum locally known as ‘engalabbi’, I bet I am the best at it now,” she proudly narrated.
Uganda and Africa at large needs such beautiful souls like Nanyoga who put others before themselves or rather respect the commandment that commands us to love our neighbors just as much as we love ourselves.
