Stella Nyanzi Enters FDC Flagbearer Race for Kampala Woman MP

Suspended Makerere University Researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi yesterday evening (29^th June) picked nominations forms, vying to run for Kampala Woman MP on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.

Dr Nyanzi revealed that her nomination was suggested by FDC Vice Chairperson, Central Region Joyce Sebugwawo and backed up by Habib Buwemboamong others.

The Research Fellow has previously hinted on vying for this position and ultimately, her announcement does not come off as a surprise.

Also, she has not particularly been in the best books of staunch FCD supporters whom she angered when she recently suggested that Dr Besigye supports Bobi Wine for president in 2021. The same FDC guns she expects to have support of now, were turned at her and used to attempt to cause shame at her, and her personal life.

“Today, I collected my expression of interest and nomination for party primaries forms from the party headquarters of FDC. I also renewed my party membership for 2020. I am extremely grateful to my proposer the Vice Chairperson of FDC – Owekitiibwa Joyce Sebugwawo, and my seconders who include Buwembo Habib and Fred Bugoba,” Dr Nyanzi said.

“My aspirations for the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament seat are now firm. I am preparing hard for the party primaries. My focus is going to be on representing the minorities in Kampala. Many MPs, when they reach parliament, they forget the issues of every day man and woman. They forget issue of unemployed youth who form majority of our voters and issues of labour among others,” she added.

Dr Nyanzi rose to the limelight in 2016 when she stripped naked at the Makerere University Institute for Social Research (MISR) in protest of her boss, Prof Mahmood Mamdani. She was later to be arrested and jailed, convicted and her sentence later set free in dramatic fashion after she abused the First Lady and President Museveni’s mother.
