Stranded university students in several hostels in Kampala are bitter after realizing that they did not make it to the list of vulnerable Ugandans that was issued by the government. The list has arrived ahead of government’s plan to give out cash tokens to people who were affected most by the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
According to the list of vulnerable people that Campus Bee has obtained, only people that survive on daily income will get the money as well as private school teachers. The groups of people include; DJs, musicians, bar attendants, taxi drivers and conductors, waiters, bouncers among others.
The list has left many university students in hostels and halls worried on how they go through the remaining days of the lockdown. It should be recalled that international students and other scholars who hail from distant districts were unable to go back home following President Museveni’s abrupt decision to close universities before banning public transport for 42 days.
The vulnerable people will receive UGX 100,000 each through Mobil Money or by cash tokens. The money is intended to help them buy posho (40,000), beans (25000), cooking oil, among other necessities.
Below is the full list of vulnerable groups, according to the government;
