Word reaching us indicates that over 400 Ugandan students in Wuhan and other cities across China that were caught up in the COVID-19 lockdown are going to be flown back to Uganda and quarantined for very close monitoring.

This move comes after the president suggested that the students who have been locked up in these cities of China had been crying out for help, for a very long period of time and therefore had to be given help by returning them back home.

“On the issue of the students in China, if we can, we should airlift them back and put them under quarantine and check them. The prime minister will take it up with the foreign affairs minister” said President Museveni, in Tuesdays’ address.

Meanwhile, a Ugandan student at Wuhan University, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to evacuate them because the situation worsens by the day.

Ugandan students in China have been sending messages of serious concern over lack of food and other supplies after being confined in hostels despite the government’s move of sending Shs 222M (61,000 USD) to these students.
