A former senior five student of Namirembe Hillside High School has sued her school for what she calls negligence that led to her sexual abuse. The case is that is before the Kampala High Court indicates that the student, whose identity can not be revealed, is seeking a Shs. 100 Million compensation.
According the Online Website, ChimpReports, the school’s negligence gave an opportunity to a fellow student to rape her.
“The plaintiff says she was in Senior Five last year, when she was sexually assaulted and that in the process, she lost her virginity. The applicant recollects that on 26/October 2016, during lunch time, one Geoffrey Kalemera, a Senior Six student by then unlawfully grabbed her and dragged her into the Senior 2 classroom and raped her at 2pm before fellow students returned to class for lessons,” the ChimpReports reports.
Through her lawyers of Pearl Advocates and Solicitors, the complainant is accusing the school head teacher of failure to carry out proper investigations in this matter when she reported.
The head teacher reportedly suspended her from school instead, without subjecting her to a fair hearing. Being on suspension, she says she missed the end of year examinations which impeded her promotion to the next class.
Among the declarations, the compliant wants court to pronounce it that the School neglected her life and welfare. The student is seeking an order for the school to pay her Shs. 100million in damages for the injuries, humiliation, loss of self-esteem, mental anguish and inconvenience she suffered.
