In a significant development affecting current and prospective university students, the Ministry of Education and Sports has assumed control of the Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) operations.
The transition was overseen by Under Secretary Dr. Jane Egau Okou who represented the Permanent Secretary.
Students currently receiving funding or planning to apply for education loans will now interact with the newly established Secretariat for the Higher Education Students Financing Board, operating directly under the Ministry of Education and Sports.
This restructuring aims to enhance the efficiency of student loan processing and management.
“The transition is designed to streamline operations while maintaining all existing student support services,” Dr. Okou assured during the handover ceremony.
The Board, which has been instrumental in supporting thousands of Ugandan students since its establishment under Act No. 2 of 2014, will continue its core mission of providing financial assistance to qualified students.
For current loan beneficiaries, the Ministry has emphasized that this administrative change will not disrupt ongoing financial support.
Students can expect to continue receiving their funding through the same channels, though they should now direct their inquiries and applications to the Ministry’s new HESFB Secretariat.
Students seeking more information about the transition or details about loan applications can now contact the Ministry of Education and Sports’ HESFB Secretariat directly.
