20’s are wealth building years but it’s also the most sensitive age bracket as you can easily make life changing mistakes when you don don’t have your shit figured out while at campus.
Forcing into the cool kids’ crew. It’s common knowledge that most of these crews have the naughtiest people. The pressure within is insurmountable. And because you wznt to fit in, you will do a lot of silly stuff coz of peer pressure. You will be rolling blunts on the balcony of your hostel room, not because you want to but because you feel you have to. The bottle becomes part of your life style, cigars wont leave your pockets. You will be be doing things just to feel and look cool. If you do not get it together you will regret in the next 2, 5, or maybe 25 years to come.
Pretending to love a guy/chic because crew needs results and you need to remain relevant. This is probably one of the biggest mistakes you will make. Many people go by the belief that 20’s is the last chance to be promiscuous and participate in orgies. This is very misleading and very wrong. The more you are pushed to a person you do not love to prove a point, you are wasting beautiful hours of your youth that could land you your life partner. Many have picked very unwanted results from such relationships. Talk of STDs, unwanted pregnancies among others. You will usually live to regret this. Avoid it when you still can.
Not saving money. Many people are given juicy upkeep weekly, or have avenues of getting money but they will not show anything for the good money they receive weekly. They spend this money in the bars of this black soil doing all sorts of naughty things. Drinking is not bad if done sparingly, but splashing cash like you determine what the dollar rate will be tomorrow is very irresponsible. It is very fun in the short run but the long term effects are not sexy one bit. Many of you enjoy living the retirement kind of life forgetting your life journey has just started and forgetting in just afew years you will not be receiving that money weekly not even in months if you do not be sharp about it.
Choosing a relationship over your friends. This guy/ girl that you think you will be with for the rest of your life should not tear the bond you have with your friends. If you break up tomorrow, you will not have any of your friends to talk to and your mouth will probably seal from keeping quiet too much. Friends will be there before, during and after your relationships, you really need them. After school life gets alittle hard and some friends disappear but not all of them will go. Its these people that will get you jobs, its them that will contribute to your exaggerated wedding budget.
Not paying attention to grades. Yeah mostly the rich folks who think their life after school is sorted. Life is full of uncertainties we all do not know what will happen tomorrow. Focus on what took you to school, have reasonable grades that even your dad or mum will not feel embarrassed to present your papers to their friends for job openings in their companies. Many of you ignore this, but what will happen if your parents are not alive tomorrow and you nearly have a backlog and more alarming grades. Ignoring your grades is one thing that will hurt so badly in the future when reality hits and your friends are thriving on the fruits of their academic labor.
Sticking to just one group of friends. There is a certain ego that goes creeping among campusers that should stop. Everyone keeps yapping, ‘no new friends, inner circle only’. My friend you should know this. Your inner circle members have other inner circles, you are probably alone in that bongo you talk about. Get to know different people. Your inner circle could even be useless. Mbozi zamarwa!. , build your social network, it’s one of the biggest sources of your wealth.
