Many campusers cry in pain with depression and feeling rejected after a pregnancy out of the wedlock, especially while still studying at campus. A number of students go ahead to abort while a series of dudes get depressed due to emotions and physiological torture of making a girl pregnant.
This was the same dilemma that Ugandan based gospel artist Resty Mbabazi aka Race-T suffered upon getting pregnant out of the wedlock.
Race-T is a rap hip-hop gospel artist, a song writer known for her songs like ‘Ani Asinga’,’ I am free’, ‘Conquerer’ among others.
She recently graduated from Kyambogo University with a bachelor’s of accounting and finance.
She tells her story to our reporter Fred Warom which she hopes will help many girls going through the same at campus.
Who’s Race-T?
I am just a simple woman, a mother now though now a rap mama basing on the type of music I do.
Briefly tell us your pregnancy story.
When I found out I was pregnant, I was so dumbstruck. I didn’t know what to do because at that time I was at the peak of my music career and my record label JC Label had high hopes in me that I was soon making it to a big gospel artiste.
I had not introduced my boyfriend and I knew my church members would gossip about the whole situation and so I distanced myself from so many of my friends. I felt rejected and alone. It was the most trying moments of my career.
Do you feel sorry that you got pregnant out of the wedlock?
I do but I don’t feel sorry for having my baby, it’s a blessing and there is no running away from church. Though I suffered a lot of depression and you cannot swallow tabs to cure it you know.
Tell us about your baby now.
He is called Ethan and now he is 10 months old. That’s why I did a song called rap mama since I am a mother (Laughs)
What did you when you found out you were pregnant?
Oh I realized that six months later. I had big gospel shows to perform at but I cancelled all of them because of my pregnancy. Most of my friends looked at me as a done case. Some frankly said ‘now that she is pregnant, her music career is done’.
The only thing I did was to forgive myself and you know it’s hard doing that. Asked for forgiveness from God and then we did an introduction in October since I wanted my parents to know my guy. I thank God he never rejected me after the pregnancy.
What is your view on abortion?
I don’t support it at all. When you get pregnant, stand up have the child and move on. Get up and work, forgive yourself and don’t make the same mistake again because life has given you another chance.
You advice and last words to the youth out there?
Never let any situation put you down, you are a victor and nothing bad lasts forever.
To the guys, be responsible and take responsibility of the girl you have made pregnant. It’s never the end of life.
