News reaching our desk is that the alleged boyfriend to Desire Mirembe,the slain Makerere University 1st year student, has been arrested by Police on charges of murder.
Our sources add that Mathew Kirabo, a 4th year medical student and an OB of Ndejje SS was staying in Jinja on internship before he was arrested during his flight to Rwanda on a bus.
It is alleged that he usually frequented Ark Hostel where the late used to put up from where they would set off to go out. Sources add that the two’s relationship had of late soured due to infidelity suspicions but Jonathan Ddamulira, the late’s brother had tried to mediate between the two without much success.
Matthew was also reported in our earlier story as having made a statement to police in relation to the murder although other media stated that he had only gone to Police to report the late Desire as missing.
The arrest comes at the height of a nationwide manhunt by security operatives for the rogue behind the late Desire’s tragic sexual assault.
Desire Mirembe’s body was earlier this week discovered by children in a sugarcane plantation allegedly owned by SCOUL in Kibubbu village, Kawolo Sub-county, Buikwe District District. She had been reportedly raped before being murdered by her attacker.
Burial of the late is expected to take place today in Kalungu, Masaka.
