The Chief Fresher of Ndejje University (Main Campus) has threatened legal action on the University administration if they (administrators) dont get over with what he termed as “sheltered injustice” within the Institution of Higher Learning.
This is a major build-up in the case of a strike that occurred at the University between 10th -11th May, 2016 and resulted in an indefinite suspension of all Engineering Students residing in Noah’s Ark Hostel. The Chief Fresher, Mr. Sixtus Mwaka is part of that group.
“There was a 10% increment on Faculty of Engineering tuition fee and the “room and board” fees were increased from 650,000 UGX to 800,000 UGX which students in general did not agree with.”
The aftermath of the students’ reaction was the destruction of yet-to-be valued property in Noah’s Ark Hostel and subsequent administrative resolution to have all First Year Engineering Students residing in that particular Hostel suspended.
However, the suspension has come with its perks, “We were not able to sit for Exams last semester and we were denied recess training at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute – recess training that we paid for.”
Their exams have been rescheduled to July but only after payment of a Fine of 750,000 UGX. The victims however maintain that they are innocent and payment of a fine would only imply their guilt.
They have therefore sought to take the matter where every unsatisfied Citizen of the state goes – Courts of Law.
