From the over 1000 students that were suspended last month for striking at the university premises culminating into the touching of the Multi-purpose hall of the university, a student has stood out and written a touching story to the guild president of the university who sits on the council to help them reverse the punishment that was slapped on them. Below is the letter;
Dear sir,
Following the decision made by the university council on the students of Faculty of Education & Humanities, I submit this concern to your office;
Considering the status of the majority students in Gulu University hailing from financially poor background, the punishment placed on the innocent majority in the Faculty of Education & Humanities of UGX 200000/= may not be met by all the students in the short time, given the fact that this condition has to be executed before sitting examination, again adds insult to the injury.
My humble appeal to your office is to, on behalf of the students influence the decision Of the university to accept that the condition be met at a date after examination and/or before graduation ( for the 3rd year students) since the council has instead of decreasing the penalty, increased it from UGX 157000/= to UGX 200000/=.
The predicted consequence of the standing decision is that many students in the Faculty of Education & Humanities will drop out of school as a result of failure to meet the condition.
