The Makerere university swimming pool wasn’t spared during the non teaching staff strike, it received a number of visitors during that period… a variety of tadpoles.
Ssalongo the pool custodian says due to the strike, the holes that are meant to let out water from the pool are blocked because the pool was over used without proper maintenance and to make matters worse even the pump machine that was meant to help in such matters was stolen recently.
He added that at the moment they have hired a group of men to try and fetch the water out of the pool since there is no one to maintain it.
The Makerere pool is designed to accommodate between five and seven swimmers at ago but with the increasing number of students enrolled, the pressure on it makes it overcrowded yet it is not maintained well except treatment which is done by using the 1000 shillings paid by every swimmer who uses the pool on a single day.
