The Ivory Tower has once again been reminded of its state as a battle ground. As the Guild rallies tour different halls of residence, the supporters from the visiting halls are fond of clashing with the hosting hall.
This is exactly what happened when Lumumba Hall residents arrived with their procession at the Nkrumah hall check point today. The gongom guard Brigade GGB from Lumumba hall clashed with the OGB from the hosting hall Nkrumah. The scuffle at the check point forced police to fire live bullets and tear gas to separate the fighting camps.
This didn’t spare the supporters who had earlier made their way inside the same. They too had to scatter for their lives as the tear gas smoke left their lungs uncomfortable and the bullets scared the living hell out of them.
Police is currently trying to contain the strike situation. Students from the guild rally hosting halls of residence always form a certain type of unarmed army composed of residents that line up at the entrance checking points in black uniform attire to check bags and prevent students from entering with lethal objects and posters of their candidates. This is where most clashes happen when some students are not allowed in for personal or hall rivalry reasons.
