Emmanuel Okello, 18, a senior four student of Makerere College School on Monday committed suicide after his parents allegedly forced him to return to the mentioned school.
The deceased was a son to Moses Opio, a resident of Parliament village- Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire, his (Okello) siblings had been taken to school when he locked his father inside the house and committed suicide in the compound.
“It is alleged that while his (Okello) siblings had been taken to school, the victim locked his father inside the house and committed suicide in the compound,” Owoyesigire said.
The deceased reportedly informed his parents that he was no longer interested in returning to Makerere College. Following this disagreement, the father suspects it could be the cause of the suicide.
Owoyesgire said that Opio obtained a position at St Kizito SS Namugongo, but the boy wasn’t happy about the choice either.
“The police urge parents to report to the police or seek professional help whenever they detect signs of depression manifesting in their children,” Owoyesigire said.
