Kyambogo University held its Games Union Chairperson elections yesterday 8th April, 2022.
The exercise was marred by brawls due to unclear issues in the voting process.
The 6 candidate race of Chairperson Games Union was held at Mandela Grounds. The vote that is cast by sports captains and hall executives saw few of them turning up which saw their number fail to connote with the authentic list.
This raised demands for a clear and authentic list of sports captains and hall executives leading to unending exchange of words and several brawls.
The race was later reduced to two candidates after the four were eliminated.
In the later hours to the closing time, fights came up as the tallies came in. Two candidates had tied with a 20:20 flat vote ratio.
The electoral commission then referred to the constitution which resolved that a former Games Union Chairperson was to cast a determining vote for the tied candidates.
This became another point of heated brawls as some candidates were not in agreement with the constitution. Police sealed off the grounds as the sports tutor cleared air referring to a copy of the draft constitution.
In the end Hon.Baluku, the former Games Union Chairperson cast the last and determining vote as Manano Alhaji emerged the victor with 21 votes.
