Yesterday (Tuesday), the nation was left in hot debate after one of Uganda’s prestigious high schools; Ntare School suspended the entire senior six class of 2023 following unrest that ensued at the school which resulted in damage of property.
The suspension came at a time when the students were left with about 3 weeks to the start of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) final exams, a move which has left both students and parents in dismay.
Following the aforementioned series of events, Campus Bee has exclusively established the untold story behind the suspension:
A victim of the suspension, who spoke out on condition of anonymity, revealed that the chaos all started when a senior six student was caught with a button-phone (known locally as ka-torch) on school premises. The student was then forwarded by a teacher to the school administration for further action, which escalated into indefinite suspension.
The student, who was found in possession of the phone, reportedly explained that the ka-torch phone served as an alarm to always wake him up early to have personal study ahead of the final exams, however, this was not reason enough to the Headmaster’s ears.

The aftermath of the solidarity displayed by classmates towards the affected student resulted into violence between the teachers and the senior six learners.
The school, renowned for its academic excellence, took the drastic step of suspending the entire class to contain the situation, following incidences of vandalism that occurred.
The debate over whether the no-device policy should be adapted to align with the changing landscape of education will undoubtedly continue, raising important questions about how schools should navigate the digital age while upholding their core principles.
Ntare School’s potential in the forthcoming 2023 UACE exams hangs in balance following the indefinite suspension of these candidates.
