As Professor Ddumba’s term in office nears expiry, Makerere University search committee has shortlisted three candidates who earlier applied for being the next vice chancellor. According to Ms Irene Ovongi-Odida the chairperson of this committee, three candidates including Prof Barnabas Nawangwe (Current deputy VC), Prof Venasius Baryamureba, and Prof Edward Kasujja Kirumira have all been named to compete for the job.
The selected candidates are set to undergo face to face interviews with the committee after which every candidate will be required to make a public presentation scheduled for Thursday next week. Some sources indicate that former presidential candidate Venasius Baryamureba completed his interview yesterday only waiting for next week’s presentation.
As indicated in the University and tertiary institution act 2001, the committee will hand over the candidates’ scores and names to the senate which will later forward them to the University Council by July this year. The council holds all the authority to pick which candidate it thinks is suitable for the VC job.
