The Makerere University 84th Guild Prime Minister Ian Ndamwesiga has resigned from service in that capacity effective immediately, a statement from the Guild President Were Salim says.

The embattled student leader was among those shortlisted and consequently suspended from the Guild House by the Guild Speaker, Isaac Kwagala.
Ndamwesiga had been a Civil Engineering student before the calamity befell him.

When contacted however, he exclusively avoided the mention of what had exactly made him resign and instead cited ‘personal reasons’.
Almost immediately, two more guild ministers John Paul Okiring the Finance Minister and Derrick Maate the Social Affairs Minister and Mitchell Hall Guild Representative are said to have tendered in their resignations from their line ministries also.

In a telephone interview, the Guild President acknowledged receipt of the said resignations and promised to have filled the vacant positions by the end of the week.

“I received and accepted the resignations of the Guild Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ndamwesiga Ian, the Finance Minister Hon. John Paul Okiring and the Social Affairs Minister Hon. Maate Derrick.
I thank them for the services and leadership rendered to the students guild for all the times we have worked together and wish them well in their next endeavors” he said.

The resignations came in after a letter by the Dean of Students Cyriaco Kabagambe addressed to the Guild President and calling for immediate replacements in the said positions since according to him, “they were crippling the activities of the guild – having been non-members of the same.”
