Three Makerere students have been implicated and charged with the murder of Makerere alumni David Ojok. The trio including Ivan Mutungi, Marvin Atukwase and Derrick Wagooli, who are all residents of Nkurumah Hall were presented before grade one magistrate, Joan Aciro yesterday, Friday 24th April 2015.
However magistrate Joan Aciro didn’t allow the trio to plead to their charges because the court lacked jurisdictions to try such capital offences.
Prosecution led by Peter Mugisha informed court that the accused on 12th April this year at Nkurumah Hall Makerere University, the allegedly pounced on Ojok who they mistook for a thief, beating him to death eventually.
The trio was remanded to Luzira Prison until the 7th of May pending police investigations.
David Ojok was a former computer science graduate at the university who had visited the university halls of residence to collect his money from a debtor, who also is a student and resident at Nkurumah hall of residence.
Makerere Vice Guild President, Phiona Nyamutoro also condemned this in humanistic behavior amongst the students and called the students to revise on their behaviors.
“Makerere is not a training ground for hooligans and murders. No individual should take another’s life. We ask government to help with security at campus halls of residence should be given guards.”
