Former Makerere University Director of ICT Support, Frank Kitumba, is fighting for his life after a gang of thugs raided his official residence inside the university, leaving him and his family brutally beaten.
The attack, which occurred around 3 a.m., saw armed assailants led by a one Henry Katabira storm Kitumba’s house opposite the College of Computing and Information Sciences. The gang restrained the family, warning them not to raise an alarm, before looting valuables and vandalizing the property.
Eyewitnesses and reports circulating on university WhatsApp groups allege that the thugs loaded stolen household items onto a truck, destroyed what they couldn’t take, and sped off. Part of the loot was later traced to Wandegeya, before being transferred to a mysterious drone vehicle and moved to Kajansi.
Shockingly, this marks the second attack on Kitumba in just two months. In the previous incident, his house was ransacked, and his car windows were smashed with pickhoes and hammers.
A Targeted Attack?
Kitumba has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with Makerere University over his employment and compensation. After the institution refused to renew his contract, he demanded his unpaid dues before vacating the official residence. A legal battle ensued, culminating in his eviction in 2019—only for a court ruling to reinstate him later.
Insiders claim that despite receiving part of his compensation, Kitumba later discovered that his NSSF contributions had been diverted—with UGX 60 million allegedly deposited into the Makerere University Retirement Benefits Scheme, a move he strongly contested.
The attack has raised suspicions that Kitumba’s troubles are far from over. Was this a simple robbery, or a calculated act of intimidation?
Police Drag Their Feet
Despite a police patrol passing by during the attack, no immediate action was taken. It was only after the stolen truck was intercepted that suspects were rounded up, with Henry Katabira named as the prime suspect in case file SD-REF-02/02/04/25 at Wandegeya Police Station.
Kitumba, battered and bruised, is receiving treatment at Wandegeya Medical Chambers.
Meanwhile, residents and staff at Makerere University are living in fear, as violent crimes within the institution’s premises continue to escalate.
