Every year we get acquainted and get the chance to rub shoulders with prominent figures at the University for the first time most especially if we haven’t met them face to face. I bring you a list of some prominent people who have shared classrooms with some of the UCU current students.
1. Janet Kataaha Museveni
She is the first Lady of Uganda since 1986 and the Minister for Karamoja Affairs. Mrs. Museveni recently was awarded a degree in Master of Arts in Organisational Leadership and Management on 30th October 2015 at Uganda Christian University where she was accompanied by the President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and other prominent figures during her graduation.
2. Allen Catherine Kagina
Allen Catherine Kagina is the Executive Director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) which she was appointed to on 27 April 2015. Before that, from 2004 until 2014, she served as the director general of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). She was in the same course with the First lady where they both graduated with a masters in Organisational Leadership and Management.
3. Susan Muhwezi Kabonero
Hon Susan is also an alumna who graduated in the company of the First lady and the UNRA Executive Director in the same course category on 30th of October. She is the presidential adviser on African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Trade.
4. Alengot Proscovia Oromait
At just 19 years old, Proscovia Alengot Oromait became the world’s youngest MP and youngest ever MP in Africa. She was Member of Parliament (MP) for Usuk. She joined UCU in 2012 to study Mass Communication. It is said she was poor in academics and a potential dodger in class, and eventually dropped studies after myriads of retakes. She studied Mass Communication while at UCU.
5. Leila Kayondo
She is a celebrity from the entertainment circle. She is well known for being the “punching bag” in her relationship with a South African based tycoon known as SK Mbuga. She has numerous songs under her belt and also runs a successful clothing line. She graduated with a Bachelors in Social works….after over six years of fighting with retakes.
6. Ronald Kibuule
Ronald Kibuule is a Ugandan politician. He is currently the State Minister for Water Resources where he was appointed on 1st March 2015. From 27 May 2011 until 1 March 2015. He once served as the State Minister for Youth and Children. He also serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Mukono County North, Mukono district. While at the university, he studied social work, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Social Work & Social Administration degree.
7. Anite Evelyn
Anite Evelyn is a Ugandan journalist by profession and politician and the current State Minister for Youth and Children. She also serves as the elected Member of Parliament representing the Youth from northern Uganda. She’s currently hold a degree in Mass Communication which she acquired in 2008.
8. Omara Daniel Pkwiiyulli
A comedian, actor, television personality by profession and an alumnus at UCU, Omara is has done it all. He graduated with a Bachelors in Education, English and Literature. He is famously known for his role as Odoch in the season One Hostel Series, beneath the lies and currently a presenter with Urban television.
