For decades, secondary schools in Wakiso district, such as Kings College Budo, Gayaza High School and St Mary’s College Kisubi, have been running the show by topping A’Level academic performance in the country. The data shows that schools from Kampala, Hoima, Bukedea and Mbarara, each have at least one school in the top 20. The analysis was based on data provided by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
According to the analysis, Gayaza High School in Wakiso ranked second while the other four top five schools are from Mukono. They are: Seeta High School, Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga, Namiryango College and St Joseph’s Secondary School Naggalama.
Also, Mengo Secondary School in Kampala, Uganda Martyrs Namugongo, St Julian High School (Mukono) and St Andrea Kahwa’s College Hoima, in that order, complete the top-10 ranking.

Jonan Agaba, the research and data manager at Vision Group, explained that the analysis is based on the average number of points scored by all students in a particular school between 2017 and 2024. However, he noted that schools with less than 50 students were excluded from the ranking.
“We considered the average number of students a school had between 2017 and 2024. The COVID-19 period (2020-2022) is not included.”
