Kyambogo University’s 21st graduation ceremony on Friday was marked by strong academic performances, with two standout students earning top honours among more than 5,000 graduands.
Nakasango Teddy Charity emerged as the best overall student, posting an exceptional CGPA of 4.98. Guma Francis followed closely as the best male performer with a CGPA of 4.93. Their results were a bright spot in a ceremony that saw 367 students graduate with First Class degrees and 23 complete their PhDs.
The Vice President, Jessica Alupo, who represented President Yoweri Museveni, congratulated the top achievers and said their work showed what was possible when universities invest in science, innovation and focused training. She encouraged graduands to use their skills beyond the classroom and help solve real community problems.
Alupo delivered the President’s message urging students to avoid corruption, think creatively and pursue opportunities that create employment. She said government would continue supporting universities with research facilities and technology so students can compete globally.
Kyambogo officials also praised the academic discipline shown by this year’s finalists. Chancellor Prof John Yakobo Okedi noted that the university’s stable learning environment had helped students concentrate on their work, while Vice Chancellor Prof Eli Katunguka-Rwakishaya encouraged graduates to treat their achievements as the start of a lifelong learning journey.
As families celebrated across the university grounds, the spotlight stayed on the students whose hard work set them apart. For many, including the top performers, the ceremony marked the end of years of intense study and the beginning of careers they hope will make a difference.
