Muwanika Cornnelius, a third year Law student from Nkumba University is all set to drag the university administration to court following the thorough beatings he received from the institution’s security guards after he tried to meet with the Vice Chancellor over the “unfair oppressive fees policy”.
A student from the mentioned university, who preferred to remain anonymous has informed Campus Bee that Muwanika and his two other colleagues last week (5th August) made their way to the university for a meeting with the Vice Chancellor but they were unfortunately out-numbered by security guards and beaten thoroughly.

Muwakina, who is aspiring to become the next Nkumba University guild president stormed the institution with a mattress and jerrycan to demonstrate over functional fees and other matters affecting fellow students. The students argue that the university should revise its fees policy since they will be studying online as universities remain closed for physical lectures.
“On 5th they had made a demonstration with mattresses and jerrycans and demanded to meet the VC over the tuition fees policy circular they had issued on 4th night on all University platforms. It was re-emphasizing that the institution was not to change the fees policy and yet these students thought that some of the functional fees were irrelevant and had to be scrapped off.” A source told this writer.
Muwanika and his colleague Philip Anyang are currently receiving treatment following a police medical examination that indicated how badly they were injured. The source further explained that security guards involved in the beating of these students have already been charged for criminal assault at Entebbe Police Main Station.

“They are two cases, the security team and the quality assurance officer will face the prosecutors against criminal case of assault and conspiracy in assault respectively. There is also a civil case.” The source added.
The security guards are today expected to make statements following police summons ahead of Muwanika’s planned court case. The Nkumba University student, who also doubles as the institution’s Rotaract Club President is the current Deputy Chief Justice.
“In suing, all shall be sued and each shall pay accordingly as they shall decide since all are administrators and workers of the University.” The student said.
Among other issues, Muwanika is demanding for the creation of an Electoral Commission and a clear roadmap for the electoral process.
