“Crushers,” get your crushing game on for this Monday brings the one and only, Speaker for the UCU main campus law society. Many of you didn’t know this was a thing, but it is. The criteria for this position is an all around knowledgeable person with the art of law and a charming personality that pleases crowds. Joel Otim is everything stated above with rollacoaster of different values and dynamics; that is serious and nonsense intolerant at campus but fun, wild and crazy off campus in his free time. He was formerly the organizing secretary for the law society before elected Speaker so he’s fully embedded with everything to do with law. I don’t think explanations about his job description are necessary though. Just look at all the duties and responsibilities Parliament’s Speaker Rebecca Kadaga holds, and replace the word Parliament with UCU law society.

Otim is currently a freelancing MC, writer for Sawi Exclusive magazine and also working for DECODIAN, a renowned NGO that helps out orphans and widows from Eastern Uganda. His life’s biggest inspirers are some of the world’s greatest heroes, whose ideals made the world a free and fair place that it is today. They are Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln. However, he is his own inspiration but we all have and need greater knowledge and wisdom to  rub off on our very own ideals to mold our inner greatness.
Joining law school was a major eye-opener for him. because his life before was that of a self-titled and naive person that thought the swaggering lifestyle had anything to offer. He says this idea of keeping hip and cool is one of the reasons why many campusers morals and visions have sadly  been eroded.

Otim is fully aware of his charming ways to people’s hearts and knows that he’s easy to like and hard to hate. His one of those people that everyone loves to love and hates not to love. He also falls victim to the typical fear of many youthful men; which is love. We humans have a tendency of fearing what we don’t know so only till he figures out what love is, will he be one step closer to being a fearless human.
Otim loves everything to do with law school; from the knowledge, the growth and the ego one learns. But there are careers he would jump at if being a lawyer wasn’t an option. These are being a CNN TV presenter, actor and script writer. I believe everyone at some point in their life was fascinated with the news anchors of CNN, till the actual conceptualization of news everyday dawned on many as a gruesome task. The script writing comes from his passion for writing and the acting… well everyone thinks they can be the African Denzel Washington, right?
