Hostels in Kashanyarazi, a slum around Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) were today morning flooded after a heavy downpour that was experienced in Mbarara that lasted for over 6 hours non-stop.
The heavy rain exceeded the hostels-doors brim levels exposing students rooms to drainage filled with rubbish and dumpings from different water catchments. Students that were inside their rooms were forced to seek for refuge in their friends’ hostel rooms on raised land levels.
Students are left complaining that this isn’t the first time this calamity is happening and regardless of how many times they raise the issue to the management of these hostels, nothing is ever done for their well-being. At the moment, the hostels are in a very worrying state and the management seems not to care.
