TRAGIC! Kabale University Fresher Dies by Suicide After Missing Exams Over Tuition Arrears

The Kabale University community is in mourning following the tragic death of Victor Mugarura, a 22-year-old first-year student who allegedly took his own life after missing his end-of-semester II exams due to failure to pay tuition.

Victor, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management, is said to have been dealing with deep emotional stress after being locked out of exams for the 2025/26 semester. According to sources close to the family, the young man had been silently battling this disappointment until things sadly took a dark turn.

On Wednesday, July 24, Victor reportedly took his mother’s phone and vanished from home. Family members began searching for him until his sister tried calling the phone later that evening. To their shock, the ringtone led them to the house where Victor used to sleep. Upon opening the door, they found his lifeless body hanging above his bed.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and noted that police visited the scene, documented it, and have opened up an inquiry into the matter.

A suicide note found near the scene read:

“I am sorry for this disappointment but hope you will forgive me. I also didn’t expect it but this is what life is. Dear God forgive me all my sins (AMEN). LIFE IS SCUM. Yours, Mugarura Victor.”

Kabale University has since issued a statement mourning the loss of their student:

“We regret the demise of our student, Mr. Victor Mugarura. Victor had just completed his first-year coursework in the Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the university fraternity.”

Victor’s death has sent shockwaves across student communities, with many calling on universities to provide stronger mental health support and flexible tuition payment options for students in financial distress.

As investigations continue, fellow students and friends are remembering Victor as a quiet and humble soul who had a bright future ahead of him.
