As a classic music fan, KIU economist Raymond Tumuhairwe alias the ‘Mad Poet’ found a passion for poetry, a learned talent that he uses to create awareness on social vices. The wimbo association subscriber uses his pen to preach against rape, xenophobia, suicide, domestic violence and many more.
The BBC recognized poet isn’t about to quit. Despite the challenges he encounters as a poet, Raymond is ready to continue with the creative art even after graduating with a Bachelor of arts in Economics that he is currently pursing at the Kansanga based Kampala International University.
Raymond is optimistic that he will one day represent Uganda globally. On whether he would quit poetry for a well paying job in the economic field he says :
“I write to impact society in the best possible way. So no, I will not and would not abandon poetry.”
Raymond Tumuhairwe was part of a Vilitigo sensitization campaign that was recognized by BBC. This gave him the courage to strive for more. Regarding his status, Raymond’s sexual healing poem could do the explaining.
Sexual Healing
A pie or thigh
I had to think twice
To fill or to shy
To quench the lust or turn a blind eye
Mary had me in the palm of her hand
My body failed me, couldn’t collude with my mind
Explained the bulge in my pants
Judas would be proud
I was tempted to touch
I was aching for her warmth
Blame the eyes, the lightness of her thighs
She was that I was dying inside
Taste me, she said
She wanted me inside
