Ahead of Makerere University’s 2019 guild elections slated for Friday, March, 15th, guild aspirants continue to spread their leadership ideologies through a series of rallies they have been holding in different halls inside the Wandegeya-located campus.
However, this year’s campaigns have been symbolized by red attires which have taken over the entire campaigns. It should be recalled that Makerere has over the past years had strong UYD candidates but this year has been totally different.
There are currently two guild aspirants fighting for the people power slogan and agenda as they both struggle to attain Bobi Wine’s endorsement who happens to be the architect of the said pressure group and ideology.
During yesterday’s rally that was held at Mitchell Hall, candidates Kateregga Julius and Mukisa Joshua William both showed up rocking people power attires, however, Mukisa was barred from entering Mitchell Hall over unclear reasons.
Mukisa has been getting massive crowds ever since he announced his candidature under people power and was recently joined by Kateregga, an official UYD flag bearer in the 2019 guild elections.
Kateregga is said to have left UYD for people power following low turn up of crowds before he decided to print new posters and slogan changes. Kateregga, who was using “The struggle is our life” slogan, has abruptly switched to “People power, our power”.
Both Kateregga and Mukisa claim that they were endorsed by Bobi Wine to represent people power at Makerere.
Mukisa is accusing Kateregga’s camp of throwing stones at his crowd, shortly after he finished addressing hostels in Wandegeya last evening. Apparently, chaos broke out and stones were pelted at his supporters by Kateregga’s diehards.
