Last Friday, on the 16th Doreen Nyangoma and Ssenkumba Caeser were the sole survivors of a rigorous vetting procedure in a bid to fill the void of President, law society, previously held by the embattled Simon Semuwemba.
Tough as this seemed, the select committee for vetting delivered on their unequaled bargain by presenting the UCU law fraternity with two formidable contenders of proven substance.
Also in the offing are the by-elections slated for Friday, 23rd at the law faculty premises. If one of these contenders triumphs, their term of office is expected to run for one academic year 2016/17.

Categorically speaking, the law society has been without its top leadership for close to five months owing to a protracted court battle between Simon Semuwemba for and against the Clergy administration.
It should be noted that Simon Semuwemba and Yasin Sentumbwe were expelled from UCU on grounds that they were the architects of the tuition demonstration last semester. In response, the duo dragged UCU to court challenging the grounds of their expulsion.
While their date for hearing hasn’t yet been set, they have won the first round and were awarded thrown away costs on the premise that opposite counsel didn’t submit the alleged evidence pinning the two in time.
As we watch this space, law students still feel deprived emotionally of Semuwemba’s leadership. This explains why these by-elections were faced with so many objections on the basis that since Simon had a deputy, there would be no need for the president since the term is closing in.
‘We cannot have by-elections, they’re a mere waste of time and on the long run it’s costly’ fumed Fred Odeke (LLB 2), infuriated by the new developments.
Despite this mutual feeling shared by many, the mood is filled with optimism for a better law society set to thrive with new leadership. In this regard, Mrs. Nyangoma Doreen and Ssenkumba Caeser are in wanton need of this mandate so they can fulfill their respective manifestos.
Closely Nyangoma is a laid back person who is work oriented and objective in her practical approach as well as Caeser who is a vocal guy who has the mantle to take on huge responsibility at the Law society.

By press time, Nyangoma had replied with a positive air about winning the Friday elections. ‘I am convinced that I have will and the strategy by which to salvage a society in distress. The trail is rough, but I consider it the means by which my ability to mobilize a scattered society is tested and proven. Eventually, I am positive the lawyers of UCU will share my confidence in my abilities. That is if God so wishes’ echoed Ssenkumba with a hopeful grin.Nevertheless, may luck be upon the fairest of them all!
