The 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results have highlighted Uganda’s leading secondary schools in science subjects, with traditional academic powerhouses once again dominating the rankings.

According to the released performance lists, schools in central and western Uganda featured prominently, with several institutions posting strong average points and high candidate numbers, reflecting consistent excellence in science education.

At the top of the rankings is St. Julian High School, Gayaza, which recorded an average of 17.2 points from 47 candidates, followed closely by Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga with 16.7 points from 101 candidates. God’s Way High School, Nansana secured third place with an average of 16.5 points, while Ntare School, Mbarara and St. Andrea Kahwa’s College, Hoima also featured among the top five performers.

Other notable performers include Gayaza High School, Wakiso with 15.7 points, Mt. Mary’s College, Namagunga scoring 15.6 points, and Seeta High School, Mukono with 15.5 points. King’s College Budo and St. Mary’s College Kisubi also maintained strong positions among the leading science schools.

Further down the list, Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo, St. Mary’s College Lugazi, Ndejje Secondary School, St. Lawrence Schools and Colleges, and Makerere College School continued to demonstrate competitive performance in sciences.

The rankings also reflect participation from a wide range of schools across the country, including Mbarara High School, St. Henry’s College Kitovu, Kibuli Secondary School, Buddo Secondary School, and Namilyango College, all of which posted commendable results.

In the mid-tier rankings, schools such as St. Joseph’s Secondary School Naggalama, Lubiri Secondary School, Gombe Secondary School, Standard High School Zzana, and Greenhill Academy maintained solid average scores above 11 points, indicating steady academic performance.

Meanwhile, a large number of schools recorded averages between 9 and 10 points, showing broader national participation and gradual improvement in science education across regions. Institutions such as Kyambogo College School, Trinity College Nabbingo, St. Mary’s College Rushoroza, St. Peter’s College Tororo, and Iganga Secondary School featured within this competitive bracket.

Education analysts say the results reflect both growing interest in STEM subjects and the continued dominance of well-established schools with strong laboratory infrastructure and experienced teaching staff.

The release of the UACE 2025 results comes as Uganda continues to emphasize science and technology as key drivers of national development, with policymakers urging schools to invest more in practical learning and innovation.

While top schools celebrated outstanding performances, stakeholders have also called for increased support to underperforming institutions to ensure equitable access to quality science education across the country.
