Uganda’s communications regulator, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), has pledged to intensify consumer protection, promote fair competition, and expand access to digital services in 2026, as it wrapped up the year by crediting stakeholders for progress made in the sector.
In a year-end statement issued on Wednesday, UCC Executive Director Nyombi Tembo said collaboration with telecom operators, broadcasters, content creators, academia, development partners, and the media had been central to strengthening Uganda’s communications ecosystem.
“As the year comes to an end, I sincerely thank all our stakeholders for making UCC’s work meaningful and impactful throughout this year,” Nyombi said. “Your partnership has helped strengthen Uganda’s communications sector and move us closer to our collective vision of a digital ecosystem that is accessible, affordable, and secure by 2030.”
Nyombi noted that the commission remains focused on safeguarding consumers, fostering healthy competition, and encouraging innovation, while broadening access to communication services across the country, particularly in underserved communities.
He also said the awards received by the regulator in 2025 for excellence and leadership were a collective achievement, reflecting the combined efforts of UCC staff and partners rather than individual accomplishments.
“These honours strengthen our commitment to maintaining high standards in public service aligned with our EPIC values of excellence, professionalism, integrity, and collaboration,” he said.
Uganda’s communications sector—spanning telecommunications, broadcasting, and digital content services—is regarded by policymakers as a key driver of economic growth, financial inclusion, and digital transformation.
Looking ahead, Nyombi said the commission would carry its mandate into the new year with renewed focus, wishing stakeholders a restful holiday season and a prosperous New Year, while reaffirming UCC’s motto: “For God and My Country.”
