A total of 1,593 students graduated from Uganda Christian University (UCU) yesterday among which 44 walked away with a first-class degree.
This was the third part of UCU’s 17th graduation ceremony after 2 others that took place in January and July, this year.
The ceremony that started at 8am took place at the UCU main pitch of the university and was concluded by 1pm, with graduands expressing unending happiness brought about by the academic victory gained.
“I am very proud of myself. I feel so blessed,” said Annah, a student who graduated with a first-class in Bachelor of Community Health, before recalling a time when she thought she had lost track of her dream. “There was a semester I did not have good results and I thought I would not make it, but I thank God.”
In his speech, the Guest of Honour Dr. Os Guinness, congratulated the students upon their success and wished them a blessed future.
Mr. Guinness is an author and a social critic. Holds a B.D (Honors) from University of London and a D.Phil. from Oreil College, Oxford University. He is also a writer with a number of books inluding “Fool’s Talk”, being his latest. The other notable speakers of the day included the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor Rev. Senyonyi among others.
But most of the students in the Christian University attributed their success to God.
“I am happy and thankful to God for having seen me through to this day,” said Eric Kalema, a graduant who was pursuing a bachelor in Human Resource Management.
Kalema’s mother was equally grateful: “I am so proud of my son. My son did not get a first class, but he has still made me proud with his results. I am proud of you,”
Modest Nkurunziza, a graduant of Nursing was not disappointed too. “Everything went according to plan” he added.
Additionally, graduands were pleased by the way the university management plans for graduation ceremonies. One graduand of Bachelor of Business Administration was particularly impressed by the fact that she was able to get her transcript immediately.
“I already have a job with some agency in town. My bosses asked for my transcript, now I have it. I am so good to go” she said.
