The annual Uganda Christian University (UCU) Media Link Dinner of 2020 has been called off.
This was confirmed by a letter dated June 2, 2020 written by Timothy Kisuule Wasswa, the President of the Uganda Christian University Media Link Association.
In the letter, Kisuule indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the event.
“Our current realities of social distancing, curfew and a prolonged school shut down mean that having the dinner on June 26 is no longer possible,” the letter read.
He further noted that it would be unfair to involve only third years in the dinner when the semester begins.
“It would be wrong and insensitive to have a celebration while our first and second year comrades are still in the midst of the tragedy of having their education disrupted. We must show solidarity,” the letter read.
This was going to be the Second Edition of the lucrative event that started in 2019. This pours cold water on the hearts of many Journalism and Mass Communication students particularly third years who were yearning to take part in the event.
Uganda Christian University has already felt the pinch of the COVID-19 pandemic with salaries of employees being greatly slashed and the government putting a halt to their efforts to issue take home examinations.
