An alumnus of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Nicholas Kihangire who graduated from the university in the year 2013, has passed the bar course of China making him the first African outside South Africa to practice law in the Asian country. This also makes him the first Ugandan to practice law there.
He had been a tutorial assistant with the faculty of Law at UCU before he travelled a year ago to pursue further studies in China. He took on a year-long Masters of law study in Peking Law School from which he graduated recently qualifying him to practice law in Hong Kong, China.
Peking Law School is the law school of Peking University, one of the oldest universities in China established in 1904, and is also one of the most competitive universities in the country.
In a publication on the UCU website, the dean of the Faculty of Law at UCU was excited about the news and the opportunities that UCU students are enjoying and also the fact that they are able to make history not only in Uganda, but also impact legal practice in Africa, and beyond.
