News strolling in from Mukono based Uganda Christian University (UCU) is that the popular Sheikh Mayambala of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) was bundled out of the university last evening like a chicken thief by authorities at the Christian University.
The Sheikh, we have learned, was at the university on the invitation of the Muslim Students’ Association at UCU who had an event yesterday that they expected him to preside over.
In a sudden and unceremonious twist of events however, UCU authorities reigned in on him and asked him to vacate the university. According to the students we contacted, the UCU authorities’ reasoning was that their institution is predominantly a christian society and cannot allow ‘intruders.’
“Impunity! The Muslim students have always had their association here at the university and it is not in the university’s power to interfere and determine how they conduct their operations. That is an infringement on their rights to freedom of association and worship.” One student cried out.
The function he had been invited to was in the process botched and we are told the Muslim students almost staged a riot thereafter. We shall bring you more developments on the matter.
