In a race of 5 guild candidates, Francis Bbale Rukundo emerged the winner to become the next Kabale University guild president for the year 2018/2019. The newly elected guild president is a second year student pursuing a bachelor of Engineering. Rukundo defeated his four other competitors including Ivan Machacha, Isaac Nuwamanya, Blaise Mugisha and Elizabeth Aturinda.

Rukundo emerged winner with 535 votes and was on Saturday night declared winner by the University electoral commission chairperson, Bill Niwahereza at around 8:00pm. Rukundo was followed by Machacha who got 378 votes, Aturinda with 344 votes, Mugisha 244 votes and lastly Isaac Niwamanya who got only 122 votes.

Following his victory, Rukundo vowed to fight for students’ issues and assured his supporters that student welfare will be catered for. “Since we became a public university, the Government started contributing towards our development. Therefore, it is an expectation of students to see an improvement in their welfare since we pay a lot of money,” Rukundo said.
