The Guild cabinet of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Kampala Campus is in utter shambles with a political hullabaloo.
News reaching this publication indicates the ultimate resignation of institution’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, a one Ainebyoona Albert.
Mr. Ainebyoona pins his resignation toward his superior, the Guild President, Masembe Owen Michael for failing to take heed of his advice.
“As the Chief Guild advisor, I have advised you on several ways of engaging the university to have student’s issues resolved but none has been done irrespective of my efforts,” he noted.
Ainebyoona served as the Attorney General too at the time of resignation, citing regret that he must resign from Masembe’s government.
“It is with sincere regret, that I must resign from your government. I hoped that I would not have to do this, and you know I am grateful for all the support you have rendered to me at the time of service,” he jotted his dismay.
According to Ainebyoona, the Guild leadership has not done enough regarding students’ issues.
“I have enjoyed serving as the Attorney General & Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and am so happy for all the achievements so far However I find it useless to me to continue serving if we are doing nothing in regards to answering student’s issues,” he revealed.
He went on to quote the following reasons that catalyzed his resignation;
- The university asked students to report physically at campus and they were made them to pay for housing and meals but only to hear that they were supposed to stay in university halls sleeping as they attend online classes. Why didn’t you communicate that they had no class rooms for students instead of wasting their time?
- There is literally no computer laboratory yet we pay 80,000/- for it every semester.
- suggested that we should have a meeting as guild leaders but it seemed to me that I was writing on water.
- The library can only accommodate one stream not even a full class and this keeps you wondering if indeed we pay for services like our brothers and sisters in Mukono,
- The issue of canteens has as well become rampant and students have resorted to walking to Kisenyi (which is a highly risky place) to look for street food and which will expose students to diseases like Typhiod
- Even after putting one small canteen, its unable to serve the big number of students even after increasing prices of all eats.
- There is no official communication as to when students will start physical classes and nothing is available to show students that the guild is indeed for students.
- The university has since developed a character of losing students marks and its extremely hurting that the university is simply telling students to redo the papers. The most hurting thing is that students who are currently in 4″ year and don’t have marks of 1 semester in year one may end up missing graduation since the current year one is in semester 2.
“It’s from the above-mentioned reasons that I have decided to tender in my resignation letter,” Ainebyoona wrote.
He however promised to continue championing for better services for the “brilliantly talented and inspiring students from the general student community Christian Uganda.”
