Defending Champions Uganda Christian University thumped the talkative Victoria University in an opener of the tenth edition of the Pepsi University Football League.
The match that started in the scorching 3-pm sun saw UCU lead in the 10th minute after Sekandi Enoch sent Victoria University’s net waving. Victoria University came in the second half with more intensity and determination to equalize and get a winning goal but all hopes were sealed when Isaac Oforywoth curved a free kick into the back of the Victoria University net in the 68th minute.
Patrick Sebuliba, the Victoria University Sports tutor is on record for giving high praises for his side. Today might have not been a good day for him.
The game continued with high hopes of a consolation from Victoria University but all in vain, making UCU statement clear as the big threat that has come to defend the trophy which they won in 2019 after thwarting St. Lawrence University at the finals. This was before the coronavirus pandemic that sent the league into a two year limbo.
The tenth edition of the Pepsi University Football league has given followers high hopes, with the participation of all big University teams. Fans should get ready for the most entertainment the league has ever provided.
This years UFL has 22 Universities participating, the highest number of teams to ever participate in the league. The highest number had been 20 teams in 2019.
Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is set to host Busitema in the second game of the UFL and the bee will keep you posted.
