The Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi has informed international students living within the Campus premises that they will be charged up to Shs.12,600 for each extra day that they have resided there. This is detailed in a letter dated May 21, 2020.
The Vice Chancellor has assured the international students that the Directorate of Finance is compiling their bills and will communicate to them accordingly. He further highlights that this fee could increase.”The final bill may include other costs depending what else you have consumed e.g medical costs etc,” the letter read.
“For each day in residence counting from APril 16, 2020, the university shall bill you shs 12,600,” read part of the letter.
This would mean that the students have so far stayed at the campus for extra 35 days, amounting to over shs 490,000 and still counting.
“All bills will accrue beyond April 16 (last day of the Easter semester) as a result of your prolonged stay, shall be posted to your Student Account to be settled at your billing for your next Semester OR in your Graduation fees if you are graduating student,” Dr Senyonyi highlighted.
Rev. Senyonyi makes it clear that these bills will start to count from April 16, 2020 when the last semester ended. He advises the international students to make the payments at their convenience. “You are free to make any payment at this time but you can also wait until later. When you are able, share your payments with the Director of Students Affairs (DOSA).” the letter read.
Uganda Christian University has been hit hard by the lock down put in place by the government due to the novel Corona Virus. This has led to suspension of salaries of many of their employees.
